Aim of Video Poker

The aim of the game of video poker is to achieve the highest ranking poker hand possible. You play against the machine; not against other players.

Playing Video Poker

Before you begin playing video poker, you must place a bet. You will have a range of bet sizes that you can choose from. You must then click on deal to have your cards

dealt for you. At this point you will have the chance to decide if you want to hold any of your cards. Your un-held cards will then be discarded and re-dealt forming a final five card poker hand. This final hand will be ranked according to the hand ranking for the game and you will be paid out for any winnings.

Video Poker Hand Rankings

Different variations of the game will have slightly different hand rankings; however the basic hand rankings are similar to those in poker. From highest to lowest, video poker hands can be ranked as follows:

• Royal flush – A, K, Q, J, 10 in the same suit

• Straight flush – any five cards of the same suit, in sequence e.g. 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 of Hearts

• Four of a kind – four cards of the same value e.g. 6, 6, 6, 6, X

• Full house – three cards of one value and two cards of another value e.g. 4, 4, 4, 10, 10

• Flush – five cards of the same suit that are not in numerical order e.g. 3, 6, 8, J, A of Hearts

• Straight – five cards in numerical order, but not in the same suit e.g. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 in any suits.

• Three of a kind – three cards of the same value e.g. 5, 5, 5, X, X

• Two pair – two cards of one value and two cards of another value e.g. 8, 8, J, J, X

• Pair – two cards of one value e.g. 5, 5, X, X, X

Winning at Video Poker

It is important to check the rules of the variation you are playing as some variations may only pay out for two pair or higher. Some variations, such as those with wild cards, have additional payouts as well. At the end of your turn you will be paid out according to the pay table on the screen. lists the best South African Online Casinos for you to play Video Poker.
